# Elite Distributed Systems Engineering: Event-Driven, Resilient & Self-Healing

## Core Objective
Design, build, and maintain distributed, asynchronous, and eventually consistent kernel systems. Replace heavy, on-demand synchronous validation bottlenecks with lightweight, shockwave-driven event pipelines, self-healing status accumulators, and idempotent state machines that gracefully withstand partitions, restarts, and concurrent execution waves.

---

## 1. Event-Driven Architecture & The Magician Principle (Pre-computed Gates)
- **Anti-Pattern (Heavy On-Demand Validation)**:
Running deep relational graph traversals, integrity scans, or multi-hop cross-validations synchronously in user request paths or save handlers blocks threads, creates race conditions, and thrashes execution loops.
- **Mandated Pattern (The Magician Principle)**:
  - Like a good magician, perform all necessary background work while the system is operating normally, so the moment a gate condition is satisfied, unlocking it is instantaneous (O(1)).
  - **Shockwave Events on Update**: Fire shockwave events upon state mutations (e.g. linking a criterion to a test case, updating a task status, attesting a metric).
  - **Decoupled Status Accumulators**: Event listeners/collectors incrementally accumulate state, tally condition vectors, and open gates the moment required invariants are satisfied without querying the underlying graph from scratch.
  - **Zero Redundant Validation**: If an entity undergoes validation at the time of linkage or save, persist the attestation. Never re-validate unchanged state unless an invalidating update event fires.

---

## 2. Eventual Consistency, Idempotency & Conflict-Free Resolution
- **Strict Idempotency**:
  - Every event handler, message consumer, and state transition MUST be idempotent. Applying event $E$ once, twice, or $N$ times MUST yield the exact same end state.
  - Guard state transitions with monotonic revision checks, generation IDs, or deduplication keys (e.g., CAS hash fingerprints).
- **Out-of-Order & Partition Tolerance**:
  - Assume messages can arrive out of order, be duplicated, or be delayed by network partitions or disk I/O lag.
  - Rely on state vectors, causal clocks, or commutative operations (e.g., set unions of completed criteria rather than ordered step execution).
  - Design for eventual consistency: convergence sessions continuously reconcile desired intent vs observed reality.

---

## 3. Self-Healing, Self-Recovery & Fault Tolerance
- **Crash-Only Software & Fast Restart**:
  - Components must be designed to crash safely without corrupting storage or leaving unrecoverable locks.
  - Daemons and worker sub-processes must cleanly recover active state purely from WAL logs, CAS objects, and checkpointed status vectors on boot.
- **Circuit Breakers & Graceful Degradation**:
  - Wrap remote calls, model inference endpoints, external tool invocations, and IPC pipes with adaptive circuit breakers.
  - When downstream dependencies fail, degrade gracefully (e.g., serve cached lite projections, hold transitions in draft/grooming, retry with exponential backoff and jitter).
- **Self-Healing Reconciliation Loops**:
  - Implement background reconciliation loops (anti-entropy sweeps) that scan for orphaned tasks, zombie locks, or stuck in-flight transitions, automatically restoring health without human intervention.
  - Leases and heartbeats: Every active worker lock or reservation must have an expiring TTL and automatic renewal while healthy, falling back to eviction when abandoned.

---

## 4. Backpressure, Concurrency & Bounded Resource Hygiene
- **Bounded Queues & Work-Stealing**:
  - Never use unbounded memory queues or spawn detached goroutines for incoming events.
  - Bound concurrency with semaphore pools, channel buffers, or worker rings.
  - When incoming event velocity exceeds consumer capacity, shed load or apply explicit backpressure upstream.
- **Fail-Closed Security & Integrity Boundaries**:
  - Transgressions across security boundaries or corruption of cryptographic envelopes MUST fail closed immediately.
  - Isolate catastrophic worker crashes to the responsible worker sandbox without poisoning the orchestrator or parent kernel.

---

## 5. Observability, Telemetry & Post-Mortem Diagnostics
- **Causal Event Tracing**:
  - Pass structured trace IDs and session contexts across asynchronous boundaries and shockwave propagation chains.
  - Context-Aware Logging: Always extract loggers from context (`logging.GetLoggerFromContext(ctx)`), capturing correlation IDs, worker IDs, and transaction planes.
- **Falsifiable Health Indicators**:
  - Health checks must report objective internal telemetry (open file descriptors, queue depth, lock contention, active lease counts, storage volume).
